State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program: What K-12 Leaders Need to Know

On September 16, 2022, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced a first-of-its-kind cybersecurity grant program specifically for state, local, and territorial governments across the country: the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP). School districts—and other public education agencies—are among the intended beneficiaries of the program.

In response, the K12 Security Information eXchange (K12 SIX) is pleased to release a 2-page summary of this new program—“State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program: What K-12 Leaders Need to Know”—which provides key facts and recommended next steps for those looking to leverage grant funds in support of improved K-12 cybersecurity risk management practices.

Federal support for uplifting K-12 cybersecurity risk management practices is overdue. It is our hope that the successful implementation of this program lays the groundwork for even more significant federal support of K-12 cybersecurity needs in the future.
